Question of the Week: How important is audience etiquette?

Is audience etiquette an integral and necessary component of classical music enjoyment and appreciation?  Or is much of it merely tradition that holds the music back from wider audiences and application?

Audience Etiquette

There has been a series of articles in the Guardian on this subject, and I’ll be sharing my thoughts on them and this subject throughout the day.

Please share your thoughts in the comments below.  We’ll be collecting them all and doing a post highlighting the best points before next week’s question.  Hopefully by putting our heads together we can come up with some real innovative thought.
