Question of the Week: What is the ROI of classical music funding?

Whether funding for the arts comes from the state, private donors, or some combination of each, it should be seen as an investment.  So what is the return that these funding sources see on their investment?  Put another way, why should classical music receive funding (i.e. investment) at all?

Please share your thoughts in the comments below. I’ll be collecting them all and doing a post highlighting the best points before next week’s question.  Hopefully by putting our heads together we can come up with some real innovative thought.
