Musical Pairings: Classical Music & Google
Earlier this week, Amanda Ameer went to Twitter with the results of a test she did on Google. The test was to see what came up as suggested searches when she typed in “Classical Music is…”
The results? Not so promising. Here is what comes up:
- Classical Music is dead
- Classical Music is boring
- Classical Music is tight yo
- Classical Music is for snobs
To the extent Google is prophetic, things don’t look good. The only positive search is the result of the popularity and wacky antics of Kanye West. But what happens if we alter the input just a bit? Below are the results (redacted for clarity) of some additional experiments.
“Classical Music does…”
- Classical Music does make you smarter
- Classical Music does help you study
“Classical Music can…”
- Classical Music can make you smarter
- Classical Music can be fun
- Classical Music can help you concentrate
“Classical Music puts…”
- Classical Music puts me to sleep
“Classical Music to…”
- Classical Music to study to
- Classical Music to sleep to
- Classical Music to run to
- Classical Music to fall asleep to
- Classical Music to walk down the aisle to
- Classical Music to help you study
“Classical Music makes…”
- Classical Music makes you smarter
- Classical Music makes babies smarter
- Classical Music makes me cry
- Classical Music makes you cry
- Classical Music makes me feel
- Classical Music makes plants grow faster
So it’s a pretty mixed bag what the Google prophet thinks of Classical Music. It does seem though that consistent doses of the stuff just might make you or your kid a genius, so that’s good news. And if the first bit got you down, just run a quick search for terms like “pop music,” “rap,” or “rock and roll.” They seem to be dead too.
But they are not, apparently, for snobs.
