“Drop the Needle” Partnership with Delos Productions

This week is important here at KillingClassicalMusic.com. So many of you have come to enjoy the weekly Drop the Needle contest, and it is always fun to administer.  Each week it is an opportunity to learn a new piece of music (or maybe reminisce with a familiar friend) and have a bit of fun at the same time. It’s even a great way to challenge your friends and test your knowledge against theirs.  Today, I am pleased and excited to announce that this Wednesday will start a new tradition as a part of the contest.

In partnership with Delos Productions, Drop the Needle will have an added element of interest on the last Wednesday of each month: The winner will receive a complimentary recording of the piece in question.

It is very exciting to announce this partnership with Delos, one of the United States’ finest classical music record labels. Please take some time to learn more about them here. In addition to Delos’ fine reputation for producing excellent recordings, it is also encouraging that they are so active and engaged with the classical music community around the world through social media.  It is a pleasure to be able to provide such a group with a new outlet and opportunity to share its music with classical music lovers around the world.

So, here’s how this will work…

Just like every week, entrants will be asked to provide the period in which the piece was composed, the type of piece it is, the year of composition, the composer, and finally the name of the piece. In the event more than one entrant gets everything correct, the final winner and recipient of the recording will be selected at random from those who were successful. But there are some differences…

Timing: The entries will be tallied before each subsequent clip is posted, and all who have correctly guessed the work will have their name entered for each subsequent clip. In other words, if you guess correctly after the 10 second clip, your name will be in the pot three times, while a correct guess after the 30 second clip gets your name in the pot twice, and a correct guess after the 60 second clip has been posted will get you name included once. Incorrect guesses will not be counted against you (though obvious abuse of this may be considered annoying). So, if you think you might know it but aren’t sure after the 10 second clip, you should make a guess and come back later to confirm (or change you guess as necessary).

Incomplete Answers: In the event no one knows the name of the piece and composer, incomplete answers will be accepted. In other words, the most complete answer (which could include only the period and/or type of piece for instance) would be the winner. So, don’t avoid entering an answer just because you don’t know everything; you still might win!

So that’s it. Everything else is the same as usual. I hope you enjoy this new twist on Drop the Needle. Again, it is very exciting to have established this partnership with Delos. We all stand to benefit and to have a good time.

Happy Listening! I hope you enjoy this fun new opportunity to get early access to Delos’ new releases and other great recordings.

Please share this and let everyone know.
